Well he destroyed Michael Jennings before the Clottey fight . That was as clear a victory as you could get.

The Clottey fight was no indication that Cotto was slipping. In my opinion he won handily and the only reason the fight was close, was because of Clottey's massive forehead causing that equator of a cut above Cotto's eye.
