I wouldnt call Khan either. Hes a contender. He might of already peeked as a fighter but hes no scrub. He can give anybody from 140 to 147 a decent fight. A tomato can is somebody like Phil Le Greco, who just fought Shawn Porter on Shobox.

The same goes for "shot", "weight drained" and many other terms.

Definitely is thrown around too *******ly. There are so many contradictions and double standards in boxing it's annoying. Some older fighters are given a pass for most of their fights vs lower ranked guys but whenever someone today fights anything that isn't a super fight they are ridiculed.

Also people say everyone is scared to lose and that the older fighters are loved even though they lost fights so todays fighters shouldn't worry about it but look at what happens to a guy like Khan after a few losses in this day and age...pure derision and ridicule.

I don't know how anyone can call a fighter who has beaten several world champions a tomato can. Khan has a glaring weakness, but when he has been in with boxers, and I mean good boxers, Judah, Kotelnik, Malgnaggi he has looked like a million dollars.

Yes I have said for years, the same thing over and over. A fighter can be called overrated maybe, but tomato can or bum should not be used, it's all relative to how that person is being spoken about as to whether they are being overrated.

Yes the word bum is used to much and is often used to describe pretty good fighters or even world champions. No Khan is not a bum. He was recently a champion and he is still rated in the top 10 at 140. However, Khan is not nearly as good as he thinks he is. Actually nobody could be as good as Khan thinks he is.

Younger fans make up their own meanings when it comes to boxing terminology! They think if Khan gets stopped he's a"bum"!

Bum----someone who doesn't fight up to their potental or a knock around opponent who puts on bad showings!!

tomato can----- is a guy who can't take a punch.......at all, and will stop fighting once he's hit hard!!

warrior -----is someone who can box and fight and puts it all on the line to win!!

trial horse----veteran "opponent" who is brought in to test a young fighter. Might be a mover or a pressure but will not bring power with him. ALL up and coming guys have atleast 3 or 4 trial guys to fight as they mature! They are essential to a fighters growth. Most fans think their bums!! Goes to show ya!

                Ray.

I cannot stand the term for anyone who's even the slightest bit talented, even some at domestic British level should never be labelled as such unless deserving. Deserving being a journeyman with a 14-150 record who isn't there to win, instead just covers up and allows himself to get hit with never the thought of winning.

Ray Corso got a bollockin' off me the other day for calling some fighter a bum, of all the people to use a term like that, it's a man who's worked in the business. It's like people who call fighters cowards, that really grinds my gears. No man who enters the ring is a coward, even those 'bums' who don't ever plan on winning aren't cowards.

It doesn't bother me if it's a flippant remark though.
