25-year old WBC Women’s Super Flyweight Champion Zulina Munoz (38-1, 25 KO) made the third defense of her title against the valiant but badly outgunned Soledad Macedo (11-9-1, 4 KO) at the Domo De La Feria in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico, on Saturday night. It was Macedo’s fourth loss in five starts, leaving one to wonder how she qualified for a title shot.
Both women came in a pound under the division limit at 114 lbs.
Munoz warmed to her task with an efficient first round and stepped it up in the second. A left hook rocked Macedo back on her heels, followed moments later by a right hand off the top of her head that sent her to the seat of her trunks. The referee dished out the mandatory eight count and Macedo raised her gloves to continue. Munoz resumed control, blasting Macedo with clean rights and lefts in the final minute, but was unable to score a second knockdown.
