Comments Thread For: Lebedev Released From The Hospital, No Issues With Eye

Former WBA cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev (25-2, 19 KOs), who suffered a horrible and frightening hematoma over his right eye and had his facial lines badly distorted during the last Friday's TKO 11 loss to Guillermo Jones (39-3-2, 32 KOs) of Panama, was successfully released from the hospital yesterday. All of the necessary examinations have been carried out and no career-threatening damage to Lebedev's eye have been revealed.

Good to hear. That might of been the most brutal fight I've ever seen, & that eye looked like it might of finished Lebedev's career.

I don't believe it for one second.

This Hyrunov is a crook and thug who has no respect for the sport or the fighters. He didn't care if Lebedev died and it was all cause Denis had the nerve not to win and it embarrassed his poor promoter. Hyrunov spent a lot of money to manipulate the ref, doctor and judges to ensure Lebedev won a decision and the guy had the nerve to quit cause of what I am sure Hyrunov would classify as "a small sc****"

Lebedev is probably permanently damaged but his promoter wants to milk him for a few more bucks and is more than willing to lie or deceive to get him medically cleared so he can cash out.

Well the swelling is there to protect the eye so maybe there was no long-term damage. Vargas didn't endure any from his monster, did he?

Bad swelling is generally less problematic long-term than a bad cut is.

It was a visually horrific injury, but I think many people are overestimating how it will impair his future performances. If he isn't the same fighter, I think it will more likely be due to the number of punches he took rather than the condition of his eye.

If I am full of hate what does that make Hyrunov and Tsyzu for subjecting someone they are supposed to care about to such a terrible beating?

That was disgusting and I wouldn't wish anyone to have to endure what Lebedev did for those last 2-3 rounds. If the fight had been anywhere beside Russia it would have been stopped a half dozen times. Instead Hyrunov used his influence to intimidate the officials from doing the right thing.

If Lebedev had died or been severely injured I firmly believe criminal charges would have been justified for those who allowed it to continue.
