The lineage was vacant, and had been for years, before Calzaghe clarified the division. Some people recognized the new lineage at the Lacy win (I'd say most). Others waited until Kessler. Purist wise, Calzaghe-Lacy was 1-3 and Calzaghe-Kessler was 1-2. Either way, same result.

Calzaghe filled the vacant lineage in one of those two.

Sorry mate, but the only way that Calz v Lacy was between 1 and 3rd ranked is if Kessler was ranked 2nd and Calz 3rd which just wasn't the case.

Most "experts" and fans alike had Lacy being the man to beat. And that fight was a unification to create a champion.
