Diego was my long-time teammate in the Baja California state team and I can tell you with all certainty that he is as talented as they come. That plus amateur fighters in the region have been getting a lot of government support, Diego was concentrated in Cuba with the team for about 2 months in preparation for this year's national competition taking place in Tijuana, Baja California with all expenses paid. Diego took silver after losing a very controversial match.
An aspect that could also be interesting in the near future is the legitimate hatred that he feels for Oscar Valdez. He is not shy about it and says it is personal. Diego beat him in Mexicali (very controversially) and Valdez beat him in the final round of Olympic qualifiers leaving Diego out. I see a very good fight brewing there.
Well I guess that answers my question that the article left out. A few guys got robbed at the olympics like Roy and Floyd, but damn that sucks to get robbed at the qualifiers and not even get to go.Comment

I didn't mean right away but as hes career goes on, he is barely 18 or 19 if I am not wrong and still has some mass to gain as time passes, I will say that even up to lightweight in 5-6 yearsComment

I was a coworker of his father for more than 5 years and all the talking we had was about boxing all the time and mostly of his son. The kid has been training since 6 and training hard 3-4 hours daily so his pedigree is serious.
I posted this video on a thread I made about him like 3 year ago, this is from last year against a pro
