Ishida vs Kirkland: Luck or Skill?

I was there for the fight and did not know who Ishida was at the time. I went to get a beer and when I came back the fight was over. It was cool though, because I got to meet Ishida after the main event. But in retrospect, was ishida's win over Kirkland just luck or pure skill?

That is the question... From what I remember Kirkland wasn't with Ann Wolfe at the time, so that put Kirkland at a disadvantage, at least that's what his team said. After he gets back with Wolfe, he gets dropped by Angulo, but is able to get up, get past Angulo's storm, and win the fight... So, Ishida > Kirkland w/Wolfe or just greater than Kirkland w/o Wolfe?

I remember the excuse was that Kirkland was weight drained in that fight. Dude did a good job of making me look like a fool, when I told friends who are only casual fans that Ishida was a sacrificial lamb ;-)

Not luck, just boxing, and the lack of defense of Kirckland. Sometimes you get caught. And Kirckland hardly has the best defense. He doesn't mind trading. But this time he was the only one on the receiving end.

Why would you go get a beer during a James Kirkland fight them fights be over quick. I don't feel Ishida was lucky if it was a 1 punch KO then it would of been luck but the guy dropped Kirkland 3 times so i don't feel it was luck

It was Kirkland trying to fast forward his career and trying to take on too many fights too soon leaving no room in between fights for Proper Training and to properly prepare for an opponent, the man legs was shot during the Ishida fight, you could see it right away if you go back and watch that fight

Check the Boxrec, Ishida was like his 4th fight in 1 month, that was too much, then the people around him was thinking about the money, nobody told him he was trying to rush things and should slow down?

Maybe that is why he decided to dump his entire team because clearly they was just looking to make their cut off of him, even wanted the man to jump into the ring with Canelo with a bad shoulder...those are not people who care about you obviously and GBP they wanted to use him as a stepping stone for Canelo's career and feed Canelo a opponent that was not 100%

Kirkland would have likely crushed Ishida in a rematch

I agree...no boxer who trains for a fight is lucky to knock someone out...i think it is evident by the subdequent fight vs perro that he held the shots a lot better...was he drained and underttained...probaly but was it a lucky punch...abdolutely not

                    Both.

Ish idea caught Kirkland coming out from doing a bid, looking suspect without Wolfe....Lucky.

Ish idea is a solid fighter who capitalized on Kirklands flaws, by putting himself into perfect position to land the straight right and get the Ko...skill.
