Cherry has faltered here and there throughout his career but is an exciting fighter and a great story and Santa Cruz is a solid up-and-comer, so this could be a good one.

Jose Armando Santa Cruz (21-1, 12 KOs) will defend his NABF lightweight title against Edner Cherry (19-3-2, 8 KOs) in the televised opener of the February 4 SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING doubleheader from the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas. In the maien event, two-time lightweight champion Jose Luis Castillo faces late sub Rolando Reyes. Showtime Sports & Event Programming General Manager Ken Hershman, and co-promoters Bob Arum and Gary Shaw made the announcement on Wednesday.
