Comments Thread For: Takashi Miura-Sergio Thompson in Play For August

Promoter Pepe Gomez says he is currently negotiating to stage a fight between WBC super featherweight champion Takashi Miura (25-2-2, 19KOs) of Japan against mandatory challenger Sergio "Yeyo" Thompson (27-2, 25KOs). The date being discussed include August 15th and August 17th in Mexico. Miura captured the title in April from Gamaliel Diaz, who went down four times in the contest before the referee waved things off in the ninth round.

Japanese champions never fight each other to unify until one of them loses a title but that goes the same with other countries who have multiple champions in the same divisions ex: Mexico, Germany, sometimes U.S

On further research they already fought, maybe they don't feel a rematch would prove anything different.

True but Yaegeshi-Ioka bucked that trend plus i believe both have called each other out for a rematch

Ya they have already fought but Miura since has obviously won a title and in there fight Miura put Uchiyama down for the first and last time in his career

Thompson has been waiting for his shot he was supposed to get Ao but he lost to long forgotten Diaz but his title days were short lived after Miura trounced him. Now this should turn out to be a solid fight neither guy is very defensive and both like can punch abit, but I'd favor Miura his punched are shorter/straighter.

As far as a unification it would of been nice and maybe the winner will try after this but Uchi already handled Miura and don't see that fight going any different really.
