  • Comments Thread For: Lee Purdy is Devastated Over Corner Pulling Him Out

Colchester welterweight Lee Purdy produced a gutsy display before being pulled out by his corner after seven rounds against IBF champion Devon Alexander in Atlantic City on Saturday night. Alexander (25-1, 14 KO) dominated the contest from the outset, landing numerous heavy blows despite having hurt his left hand in the opening round, with stand-in trainer Darren Barker throwing in the towel in round seven to save his man from further punishment.

I found the stoppage a bit odd.

Nothing against him, but a "gutsy effort" should require more than just a fighter plodding forward behind a high guard and rarely opening up on his offense. Alexander was in front of him the entire fight and never once resorted to any spoiling tactics that would have limited his opponent offensively.

I didn't understand it either, but Purdy wasn't doing shit. There was absolutely no effort coming from him, he didn't look like he was there to win, so I was glad it ended when it did. Devon gets a lot of unwarranted hate too, Bailey did the same exact thing and Devon gets shitted on, I'm no fan of Alexander but people need to chill out.

            Barker made a good call.

              Devastated? Piss off son.

All he had to do was throw a punch. The corner pulled him out because he was standing there with his hands up and doing nothing.

I mean he wasn't in danger of being really physically damaged except his ear drums from Devon's grunting and his own talking

But for real, he wasn't doing anything. He seemed content to take his shots and just tell Alexander that they didn't hurt him. No real trying to win and upping his output seemed in the cards. It was gonna go 12, 120-108 for Alexander across the board. Just got us to the main event quicker, which is what we all wanted

I was having flashbacks of Pacquiao-Clottey during this fight.
