  • Comments Thread For: DeGale's Trainer: We're Building Steam To World Title Shot

London - Jim McDonnell believes WBC Silver super-middleweight champion James DeGale MBE’s North American debut tomorrow night can start “building that momentum towards winning a world title."

The former 2008 Olympic gold medalist, fondly known as 'Chunky,' takes on Sebastien Demers at Casino Lac-Leamy, Gatineau, May 17th.

“He’s been training for a long time, it’s been a very long camp - obviously through no ones fault the last one got called off but he’d ticked all the boxes - he’d sparred 241 rounds,” Jim said.

      DeGale v Ward anyone?

I've also always had a desire to go to the United Kingdom when I'm ready to go to the UK, and not when somebody demands that I go.

So, there's a tremendous fan base over there, and that's an option if the right situation comes up. I'm talking about whoever. I feel like me against any good fighter over there would be a huge fight. Not just for me, personally, but also, for the UK fans, because I've got a tremendous fan base in the UK, and that would just be something personal for me to give to them.

They were already offered a fight against Pascal, but wanted 1 million pounds, so Pascal's promoter said forget it.

              Building steam?

I like James but he's done nothing but lose steam since the Groves fight. He's now stuck in a crap promotion, stuck with an awful TV deal and you never know when he's even fighting.

Building up some steam against Demers???

Sounds like a certain small ****ney boxing trainer (with a comedeic falsetto voice) has been out in the Canadian springtime woods and licking some illegal, brightly coloured fungus.

After this bout let's make DeGale vs Dirrell (Andre).

I'd have Andre a big favourite but it's a great fight for the winner & the loser (assuming he doesn't get beat too bad) would still have plenty of options.

I think DeGale hurt himself the way he carried on in the build up to the Groves fight. Same situation as Haye v Klitschko. You can't promise the World & then just deliver Guatamala. He needs to have a few photos taken of him cuddling puppies or babies.

I'm no fan of Degale and certain people think just because you won the gold in the amateurs you will automatically become world champ as a Pro this is not always the case - Degale does not impress me and his pedigree really showed in the Groves fight when great idea and this was his actions - he fordced Groves live on national TV that the winner gets the others purse he forced Groves by taking the bet at the press confenrence - but what happened he lost the fight and as far as I'm aware he never gave Groves his purse - do you really want to be a backer of someone like that - come on Degale take on Tommy Osthuizen so you can get your next loss.
