i could be wrong, as i have not looked into it specifically, but i seriously doubt there were drug tests being administered, or sanctions against what we call "PED" use when duran was a lightweight. that was 30-40 years ago.

Performance enhancing did not even start to become a real science until the 80's, before then it was probably not only fully legal, but also dangerous from the sounds of it!LOL

Well if those substances aren't banned by the commission or the sanctioning body, then it's not cheating. Today it would be the equivalent of training in high altitude or using hyperbaric chambers.

I've read the book, and if you read Carlos Eleta's quote the doctors have it to him to lose a LOT of weight quickly! Duran balooned up to 180 - 200 lbs between fights!

Have you ever seen Roberto Duran at lightweight? Why would he need something to make himself Strong and Fast when he already was strong and fast?? Which was more likely? That or giving a guy who had trouble making 135 something to help him lose weight?
