What's the verdict on James Degale....I have my own opinion about him but never see his name brought up on NSB.....Anything to say on the guy?

Pfft, he seems to be regressing.
He was looking good, then lost to Groves (although I don't think he should have lost), since then he's been going back. His work rate has become poor, he's slapping instead of punching, he's been wobbled a few times, he lies on the ropes...I really don't know. -
Needs a new trainer immediately, and a new promoter.
I said it in another thread, holds 2 belts, but can't get a fight?
Needs to fight a guy like Bika or that type of level so we can gauge where he's at.Comment

Yeah, he really let James down for the Groves fight. I remember the build up to that fight and Groves brought Andre Dirrell in for some work. You could tell the strategy that they were going to bring into the fight. Did the Degale camp plan anything to counter it? Nope.
That was a close fight that could've gone either way but had Degale had a gameplan then maybe not so..
His arsenal of offence can be great and switch hitting is good to see, tends to keep his chin tucked out of harms way but now and again gets careless. Needs a new trainer imo. Needs to get out of the UK out of his comfort zone and really do something with his career before it's too late.Comment

He'll become a contender, that's it.
Even if he went with what you'd deem as a perfect trainer for his style, too many impurities and mistakes being made for him to fulfil the potential of a gold medallist.
He can't even throw a proper punch, has no game-plan in the ring. Just merely moves around and boxes, allows his opponent to get him on the ropes and is quite reluctant to get off 'em at times, which will be a bad move against better opposition. Utilises a style that requires a lot of effort, ring IQ and athleticism - qualities he doesn't have in abundance. Even though he's with a famed fitness trainer, he's hardly in top condition but looks like he can dig deep when he needs to.
He won't change trainer, he's got a good relationship with his current one and sees no need. Hennessy has done a good job matchmaking and getting him some exposure but should probably advise DeGale to go Stateside. He could fight over here a couple times a year and the rest in North America, as he's fighting in Canada soon and Hennessy has ties within the country.Comment

Bika would mess DeGale up imo, give him the fight of his life.
DeGale wants to fight Ward or Froch, but I don't think he would fare well against either. Maybe he should target Stieglitz.Comment

I don't see him go very far. He's getting tagged and going to war with guys he's supposed to dominate. All the top SMWs would beat him.Comment
