How does Jhonny Gonzales vs Abner Mares sound?

Well first of all I'm a huge fan of both fghters. I love Abner and his unbreakable will, his ability to switch it up when it matters most and it doesn't hurt that I've been following him for several years now. On the other hand Jhonny is an incredible fighter with dynamite for fists and although he is glass chinned, he makes up for it with his exciting style.
Now I noticed a trend in GBP and I have a feeling Leo Santa Cruz vs Mares is lingering in the air and will most likely be set in 3 or 4 fights from now. Regardless, after Mares gave us a wonderful fight with "tough as nails" Ponce De Leon, I think Mares should really consider Jhonny for his resume. Not only did they fight the same monster after each other but at some point in time Nacho has/had trained both of them.
I think this fight is a test for Mares since one false step and Jhonny can put him to sleep. Not only that but Jhonny has and is improving his skill. His power and counterpunching is good. In my opinion this fight will be close and a tough test for either fighter. Either Mares by stoppage or Jhonny by a spectacular knockout. Thoughts?

If Jhonny fights his fight and plays it on the outside I think it can be the other way around. Its funny how everyone doubted Abners power and many even claimed he was featherfisted. Regardless, I was just reading Garry Russel Jr is pleading for a match up with Gonzalez in june or so..perhaps the winner is gauranteed a showdown vs Mares on Mayweather's Sept.14 return. Interesting to say the least.

I agree with phantom5-JG hasn't looked real good lately. EVen so, Mares is putting in work right now. I'd rather see mares/santa cruz than mares/gonzalez TBH.

On his last fight he had an amazing 4th round knockout, aside from that ponce beat him down harshly. Anyway, I agree man..and I'm petty sure abner vs Cruz is on its way within the next year to year and a half. It will be a slugfest,barn burner classic lol.
