Maybe Cotto wants to return to his aggressive style instead of a defensive style. I don't think that's good, he has taken a lot of damage already.

Cotto isn't a defensive fighter though. He's not winning fights with Diaz, so he might as well try something different. Switching trainers like this does seem like some overt personality flaw, but we've been seeing this kind of stuff since the 2008 loss to Margarito. He said himself that it messed him up and he completely lost his confidence.

Trout couldn't outmaneuver Canelo, and Diaz would have Cotto trying to outbox him. That's not happening at this stage and at Cotto's size. He's lost a lot of speed at this point, especially hand speed. He needs to bully his opponents a la 2008 and prior.

          As per google translate:

If Golden Boy Promotions does not reach an agreement to that undefeated Middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez also faces the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr., Miguel Cotto is still a solid choice to face strong Mexican champion.

But also, if realized a meeting between the two for the next September 14, the Puerto Rican could release new boss in his corner, since, according to press reports, Cotto has shown interest in working with renowned trainer Freddie Roach.

Richard Schaeffer, director of Golden Boy Promotions, said the company does not lose hope that Floyd Mayweather go to face Alvarez on September 14 in Las Vegas, but Cotto is listed as the plan B.

"We hope to be Canelo Floyd is fighting whom," said Schaeffer after Mayweather's win over Robert Guerrero on Saturday, according to ESPN.

"Against Mayweather or not, Canelo fight on September 14th at the MGM," he added.

Before last Mayweather fight, the president of Golden Boy, Oscar De La Hoya, Cotto had anticipated that it could be Canelo rival September 14.

"Canelo wants Mayweather. Both (Cotto and Mayweather) are options, but Canelo Alvarez has said he wants to fight the best and the best right now is Floyd Mayweather, "said De La Hoya then, according GDA Sports.

Meanwhile, Mayweather does not seem very interested in matching Alvarez.

"I just left a solid demonstration. I'm in a position to take some time off. (But) I will not escape anyone, "Mayweather said after his brawl on Saturday.

But Mayweather has not fought twice in the same year since 2007, and the last time he entered the ring in a period of four months was in 2001, so that, according to various media, Cotto has a good chance of reaching an agreement with Alvarez.

          Freddie Roach will train? Cotto?
Meanwhile, as reported by ESPN, Miguel Cotto is interested in that quoted trainer Freddie Roach is the new leader of his corner.

Cotto had the Cuban Pedro Luis Diaz in his corner in their last three, but after losing to Austin Trout professional relationship between the two was in a limbo.

Roach representatives have not confirmed, nor denied the information.

"Sorry, we do not comment related to these issues," said Nick Khan, one of the agents Roach, via email.

If Roach can give Cotto even a slight semblance of his young aggressive self then we all prosper from this.

I don't know if Roach has room in his stable, but who knows?

Roach's soft spoken corner style also kind of suits Cotto.

Good post, but Cotto trying to bully Canelo (if that's what you're suggesting) is unlikely to end well.

Cotto is always in great shape, at this stage in his career i dont think Roach will add anything to him that Diaz couldnt/hasnt. No disrespect to Roach but he never gives good or clear advice in the corner these days, which he will need with someone like Canelo.

Cotto is not always in great shape unfortunately. If he was he'd still be making 147 and not running out of steam in the championship rounds.
