Yes, this ppv stuff is horrible.

Boxing was one of the tops sports on TV I remember tuning in and seeing Alexis Arguello fight on network tv as a kid.

That ppv model also created ego maniac greedy boxers like Floyd. They need to get rid of that crap, but greedy promoters won't.

I feel sad for the younger generation, I remember seeing Roberto Duran and Sugar Ray Leonard on network tv, these guys were household names at the time, I remember Marvin Hagler on Punk Brewster LOL I was just a young kid and he was one of my heros.

I don't have a problem with it. You have to remember that the older people get the more things swarm their lives. Children, wife, bills, moving, career focus etc. It becomes harder to integrate the sport in your daily life, more so because boxing isn't as popular as a sport like football which would integrate with day to day communication.

You also have to remember that people in the 80/90s had to be more committed to keeping up with the sport. It's not as though they had broadband internet to keep up. They'd have to rely on reading magazines every month, keeping a watchful eye of the TV guide, planning to record events if they cannot see it etc.

I come across a lot of them at work especially when big fights come up. I remember this older guy who told me about Hearns and Duran and they don't make fighters like that anymore, and I agreed with him I said that was the golden era, and I asked him who do you watch today? he said he hasn't watched boxing since 1995.

LOL wtf? Don't talk about boxing then how can you say they don't make them like they used to anymore if you don't even watch it. I can't stand guys like this, they stopped watching boxing and than claim the sport is dead. I been watching boxing since the 80s. I never stopped since.

Pacquiao and Marquez fights are up there with some of the best, both are true warriors who will not stop till they get knocked out, you got Mayweather even though he doesn't fight the guys we want to see he is very skilled, You have warriors like Rios and Alvarado who are similar to guys like Danny red lopez and Bobby schoolboy chacon.

You got a lot of great fighters and matches from the 2000s Diego Corrales vs. Castillo, Gatti Ward, Morales Barrera trilogy, Pacquiao Barrera, morales. Mosley vs Margarito, Cotto Margarito, Sergio Martinez P will, Rios vs. Alvarado, Juan ma vs Salido, the list goes on and on.

Bradley vs Ruslan one of the more recent ones, Man I could name so many great fights.
LOL, I've come across people who say stuff like this...one time it happened like the Monday after a brutal FOTY and I couldn't understand how he wouldn't have like to have seen it, being a boxing fan once...I can't act like the sport hasn't done it's part in it's own demise, or hasn't been fixed in the past...but mostly the fights are still great imo.

Some of the ppl don't even bring up negative stuff like "it's fixed" they just stopped for one reason or another. I stopped watching when I went to school because there was no cable. So maybe for them.. its like Rockin said, a lot of people just aren't seeing it. It's unfortunate because these people are one great fight or one charismatic fighter from being fans again.

True, and the warriors get crapped on. It has to do with this new generation of fight fan who is fixated on the "0" and perfect record. Back in the day not one person even cared if a fighter was coming off a loss, cause they knew losses didn't mean crap now they use that to discredit a fighter, its mainly flowmos because Floyd started that crap to discredit other fighters.

I remember Bazooka Limon, Pipino Cuevas all warriors with multiple losses. These guys were top caliber fighters too, if they fought in todays age they would discredit anyone who fought these guys and call them bums.

Don't be so hard on us dinosaures! I'm someone who has never stopped being a boxing fan, but I sure miss the 70s and early 80s when there were quality championship fights every weekend on free TV. I vividly remember following Chacon/Limon/Navarette/Boza Edwards. These four warriors took turns trying to kill each other for the WBC version of the 130lb title. Another example was in the early 80s two obscure fighter (Sergio Palma and Leo Cruz) fought on CBS on a sunday afternoon and it was a great fight. This kinda stuff happened all the time. On free tv there was Arguello, Cervantes, Sanchez, Saad Muhammed, Mustafa Muhammed, Quawi, M Spinks, Hagler, Pryor, Duran, DeJesus, Chandler, Pintor, etc. Hell Larry Holmes fought most of his title defences on Friday nightes free on NBC

I don't think there were better fighters then, it's just that they had way more exposure. The real downside to back then was that the lighter weight classes were mostly ignored

As they say, you're only as good as the people you fought, and when you fought them. KEEPING THAT ZERO COULD BE WORTHLESS.

Obviously some people don't think of it the same way I do, or some of us do for that matter.

Some of those ""fans" were never fans to start with.

I remember my brother watched Toney-Tiberi a long time ago and told me after the fight that it is why he doesn't watch boxing anymore. I laughed and said "you never watched it anyways, now you just have an excuse"
