Comments Thread For: Mayorga Makes MMA Debut, Secures TKO Victory

Ricardo Mayorga made his MMA Debut a successful one in his home country of Nicaragua. His opponent Tiffer tried to keep the fight on the ground but the former boxing champion was able to hold his own and survive round one. After more ground fighting in the second, Mayorga (controversially) knee'd Tiffer in the back - breaking Tiffer's submission attempt. Then Mayorga threw bombs until the round ended. Tiffer, who screamed after the knee, could not continue to the third - resulting in a TKO victory for Mayorga.

He probably got paid peanuts unless he was promoting the show himself.

            it wasn't...

that bad a fight. Mayorga wasn't in there just surviving, he was backing tiffer up and landed some good shots including one early in the second round which dropped tiffer. I hope the complaining about the knee is at a minimum... the camera angle was rough and it looked like it could've even been between his side/back. btw, Mayorgs probably trained a little grappling as he seemed to wait for the right moments to escape for the most part. he got out of a couple sub attempts by tiffer. hope dude takes it a little more serious next time around and actually trains AT LEAST some take down defense.

UFC will probably give him a title shot now.
