Comments Thread For: Rees: I've Learned From Broner Loss, I'll Take Crolla Out

Gavin Rees will take on Anthony Crolla in the chief support fight on the David Haye vs Manuel Charr show on June 29.

Welshman Rees returns to action for the first time after losing to WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner in February.

Crolla, meanwhile, fought a draw with Derry Mathews in Liverpool last time and will be fighting in front of his home fans again at the Manchester Arena.

However, former British and European champion Rees will enter the fight as favourite as he looks to return to fighting at elite level.

"I cannot wait to get back into action," said Rees. "I am itching to get another world title shot after fighting Broner. [Click Here To Read More]

If Rees was bigger and able to hurt Broner he would've beaten the guy.

What was there to learn from the Broner fight? I don't think he did anything wrong. It was just a matter of the bigger man hurting him and him not being able to hurt him back.

Hahaha, yeah if I was able to hurt Floyd Mayweather, I could beat the guy, unfortunately that's a massive IF.
I don't mind Rees one bit, tough guy, but the only thing he should have learned from that fight is that he is not an elite fighter. He has been stopped twice now, Broner has skills, but Kotelnik really is not that good.

Kotelnik isn't great but respect the man skills, he is good. He beat up Devon Alexander in his own hometown. An elite fighter looks elite against elite competition and unfortunately Broner has not looked elite against elite competition.

Against Ponce De Leon, Broner lost and we can't call his victory against Antonio Demarco elite because well Demarco was a B level fighter who was destroyed against RIP Edwin Valero. I like AB but a victory over Paulie won't be considered an elite victory either because Paulie is not an elite fighter. Paulie is a good fighter that has come up short against elite fighters.

Also, Rees wasn't a dedicated boxer back when he fought Kotelnik. I'm not saying he would have won but it's common knowledge he & Bradley Pryce did more drinking than training back in those days. He's twice the fighter these days than he was back then.

Would like to see him against DeMarco or Molina.
