If the rumors are true and Berto does bring on Virgil Hunter to corner him then its likely that we will see a lot of sparring between Berto and Khan. I always thought these guys would end up in the ring together but under different circumstances.
With Khan I always thought (like many others did) that Freddie Roach did a great job with his offense but that his defense might benefit from a different coach. Now I;m starting to think that maybe Freddie realized that Khan would never be the most defensively sound fighter and tried to compensate for that by making him a offensive dynamo whos best defense was in fact his offense.
With Berto I think a change of some sort was way over due. His strategy in fights, even the ones he would win seemed off. Any opponent going forward knows to jump on Berto early and overwhelm him before he settles in. He never sets up his shots so he waste his power shots and fatigues pretty quickly.
Both these guys became world champion. That is already a huge accomplishment. The expectations for them were even higher than that. There is still time for them accomplish more and become champion again however its not going to be easy. Khan has been a warrior and fought all the guys he was supposed to and tried to to make pretty much every tough fight. He is always dangerous when he has been aggressive and its possible that trying to slow things down has made him more vulnerable. Berto was supposed to win all the fights he has taken but still has a pair of losses. Maybe its time for him to take a fight hes not supposed to win and see what happens.
Both guys are fighters I like to watch. Hopefully they both still have some greats fights left in them.
