Comments Thread For: Abner Mares Not Shocked: Rigondeaux Exposed Donaire

Abner Mares was more surprised than disappointed the night Nonito Donaire lost to Guillermo Rigondeaux.

Donaire’s defeat cost Mares money because it lessened the magnitude of a potential bout between them, but Mares remains open to facing Donaire or Rigondeaux after fighting Mexico’s Daniel Ponce De Leon for the WBC featherweight title Saturday night in Las Vegas (Showtime Pay-Per-View; 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT; $69.99).

Mares is a FAR better style matchup for Donaire than Rigo was. No way in hell he could possibly pull off that performance.

That's why I do not find it hard to be a fan of Mares. I know if bob would allow it, he'd fight either one of them.

I think the word exposed is wrong in this case. Styles make fights and Rigo's highly technical style gave Donaire lots of problems. Mares would have his hands full against Donaire. His come-forward style would suit Donaire nicely. Donaire would be able to counter-punch Mares all night long! Mares/Donaire 2014

styles make fights and donaire would have countered and beaten mares (who loves to come forward and engage)...hopefully the fight still happens at 126 unless ponce beats mares first.
