Arum says they have a back up date for Marquez-Bradley

    http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id...ht-title-match

"If Mayweather is going to fight on Sept. 14, we'll move our date," Arum said. "But this prevents anybody from bait-and-switching us. We talked to the [pay-per-view] industry about it. Nobody is looking to make trouble. We're just looking to protect our position.

"Marquez and Bradley is a huge fight, especially with Hispanics, so we'd like to do it on Sept. 14. Nobody can say we're jumping Golden Boy's date. We have a date in reserve in case Mayweather fights on Sept. 14, which I don't believe he will wind up doing. If he doesn't, we will go on Sept. 14. If [Golden Boy chief executive Richard] Schaefer is going to bait and switch and try to put in some other fight on Sept. 14, he won't get away with it. But if Mayweather fights then, fine. We'll move."

Arum knows he can't go head-to-head with Mayweather on pay-per-view, bad for business.

It's to important of a date for either side to back down, I'm thinking Canelo vs Cotto on Showtime at Cowboy stadium if Mayweather doesn't fight.

I think Arum would go H2H with Canelo. Canelo is popular but it's still not the same has going H2H with Floyd.

He'll go H2H with Canelo, not Floyd. That's why he said if Floyd doesn't fight that date, but Golden Boy tries to put something else on that date, meaning Alvarez most likely, than they won't move.

If its Canelo/Cotto, I still think he'd move. That's good business

Unless he puts JMM/Bradley on WCB, but that won't pay JMM what he wants.

I also don't see Mayweather fighting in September...when was the last time dude fought 2x a year?

Thanks for sharing TS. That would have been ridiculous if they have Marquez vs Bradley when Mayweather fights on the same date. It's surprising Canelo is apparently fighting then but I don't know maybe it will be fine. It's good to hear Arum say that.

To be fair, we also haven't heard Floyd vocal about fighting twice a year since 2007. He never talked about fighting again in 2010 before the Mosley fight. He talked about fighting again in 2012 after Cotto, and I think he could have had he not been in jail. If Floyd had been released in June for house arrest, I bet he would have fought again in November or December.

Canelo-Cotto on regular showtime with Omar Figueroa on the undercard would do huge damage to a Bradley-Marquez PPV a huge gate makes it possible, I'm thinking it will be Khan-Mayweather with Canelo in a easy match.
