Comments Thread For: Hearn: If Alexander Loses, Brook-Purdy in The Fall

Promoter Eddie Hearn hopes Lee Purdy can pull off a huge upset when he tackles IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander next month and set up an all-British autumn showdown with Kell Brook.

Sheffield stylist Brook - who boasts an unblemished 29-fight record - was diagnosed with a stress fracture to his foot earlier this week, forcing his proposed challenge to American Alexander to be cancelled for a third time.

Matchroom Promotions stablemate Purdy stepped into the breach as mandatory challenger by virtue of his number four ranking with the IBF and faces a daunting assignment on May 18 at Atlantic City's famous Boardwalk Hall.

Wouldn't Alexander have a rematch clause? Since lee isn't a mandatory so this is wishful thinking IMO.

Well said. Only undefeated fighters should fighter for world titles.

It's not like a young fighter would learn anything in a points loss to a wily old pro, is it.

I don't mind this fight... inactivity for any person because of a glass footed ****** is bad for anybody.
                  Is it a good fight?
No, but Alexander at least gets a fight in and Purdy gets a shot and money.
Not Alexander's fault Brook is made of paper
