Why Do Some Fighter throw Flea Flicker Jabs?

I was rooting for Trout to win first of all. Man whats up with him and other fighters throwing pitty pat jabs? The jab can be a very destructive tool. When i think about a good jab Gennady Golovkin comes to mind. He spears that **** out like a power shot. Makes me happy to see that jab reminds me of Lennox and Wlad's jab. I was watching the fight thinking man put some force behind that jab and quit slap boxing. Devon Alexander is another fighter that does this crap.

This. Also, many other reasons like controlling distance/range, getting them to flinch and set something up, etc.

Guys like Trout, Judah and Devon do it because they are scared. They flick it so they dont have to commit to a punch and can pull it back quickly to prevent being countered or landed on. Not only do they paw with it but they maintain so much distance that their jabs dont even reach the fighters face, and they rarely counter

Proper users use it to draw a fighter in to counter, maintain distance and pace to land better punches.

It was a pretty weak jab. I guess he just used it to measure distance and set up the straight left to the body.

Vitali had a strong jab, so did Winky (it was his strong hand). Rafael Marquez and one of the stiffest jabs. I forget what fight but didnt he drop somebody with 3 jabs in a row?

Yeah floyd does that jab to the stomach all the time where he has no intentions of landing it but he uses it to control distance and space.

Watching donaire fight rigo and barely using the jab at all made me think he needed to use jabs and feints to control distance better. Some jabs to the body to control space like mayweather does.

Yeah that pawing **** sucks and its so weak and telegraphed it doesnt do anything the guy can see it out there and counter around it.

Yeah, Floyd is a good example of controlling distance. As far as setting something up/making them fljnch, Sergio Martinez is a good example imo, most specifically with his jab upstairs, left downstairs.

                  Trout uses it for distance/range.
