it would have been a damn travesty if trout had won that fight, this is pro boxing, damage scores, ineffective flurries where nothing lands gets you nowhere

I don't understand why Canelo-Mayweather would be next anyway. GBP and Canelo's managers want to pounce on the Cotto sweepstakes on PPV before Cotto becomes way too past it and nobody would care about that fight. Canelo vs Cotto is the next logical big PPV of the year after May-Guerrero, Pacquiao Alvarado, Marquez-Bradley[?], Mayweather - [???]. Do you guys realize how much a Canelo-Cotto PPV would sell? At least 500k and that is I repeat, at least. Then if Canelo wins he would not be so handicapped in negotiations for Mayweather in May 2014. He won't get absolutely ****d with the split. He'd have wins over Trout, Cotto, Rhodes, owner of The Ring 154 title, unified WBC/WBA champion and a big PPV under his belt.
In fact, if GBP/Canelo/and his managers were smart, they would milk Canelo by fighting Cotto, Lara-Angulo winner, and then Mayweather in September 2014. Mayweather is not going any where until a couple of years. It's best if they catch him when he's a little older and more worn out from all the young guys he's potentially gonna fight before Canelo.
Would I complain if Mayweather vs Canelo happens in September 2013 or May 2014? Of course not, that would be a big PPV and competitive fight. Just saying Cotto should be first, I would love to see that fight and I would pay for the PPV as i'm sure hundreds of thousands of other boxing fans would, and then finally give Lara his shot after beating Cotto, and Lara beats Angulo. Mayweather would also be in the news 24/7 cause by then he'd had fought Guerrero and some one else September. So both guys would be very popular. Now don't get me wrong, Lara could foil all of these plans in one night if he is given the opportunity.

If Mayweather doesn't fight Alvarez now, it's arguably the biggest duck of his career. No excuse, this fight has been set up for at least a year, and both sides have shown interest.
Especially after the Trout fight.

Canelo didn't dominate last night, and looked less than impressive a lot of the fight. Let Canelo prove his worth fighting the Lara/Angulo winner too.

The man has a 154 pound belt and is ranked #1 at 154 based off one fight. If you want your boy still ranked that he must fight the best in that division..and that person is CANELO!!! Funny tho..most of you fake azz fans had no issues with him moving up to fight a washed up Cotto..most of you had no issue him claiming to have won a legit belt against a guy about 3 years past his prime but have an issue with him moving up to fight a guy still not even yet in his prime? Listen, I really wish I could yank some of you out of your bodies and have your gods honest soul re-read what the hell you are typing. Trout got cheated? 98% of boxing writers agree the scores were wide but that Trout lost that fight regardless. That's pretty damned unanimous. What's the issue? The kid poses a legitimate threat to your betting cash cow and you know it and it scares the living shhhh out of you.. Many of the same people posting here call folks *******s but hey I saw a hell of a lot more pacquiao fans accept his defeats while ya'll don't even want your guy remotely close to it. I really really am hoping Guerrero takes Floyd's O not because I wish ill on Floyd but because some of ya'll need a damn wake up call. Some of ya'll really need to re-examine your love for the sport and stop thinking the sport revolves around one guy whose been a staple in your fanboyism for 18 years. It's cool I get it, I used to be just like ya'll. I've had boxers I defended tooth and nail but the truth is every boxer needs to prove his mettle when someone arises that's a legit threat. The way ya'll have it...Canelo needs 18 fights over the next 20 months to be worthy of Mayweather and that's bullshhh..either give up your belt and ranking or fight the man. I've seen this bullshhh pulled against paul williams while Paul was in his prime. Can't no legit fan of boxing say Floyd did not duck Paul Williams..he's the sole reason Floyd retired the first damned time..this is the real moment right now where Floyd's fan need to stop discrediting this kid and at least showing some props because many of us who aren't Mayweather fans have given him props when he's earned it perhaps it's your time to do the damned same.

And could May beat most (if not all) of the fighters that people say that he's ducked. Again, absolutely. But...
Could he have suffered a defeat or two along the way had he fought the people he "ducked"? Again, yes. Just like Duran, Leonard, Hearns and Hagler -- all took their lumps against one another. When the best fight the best, in their primes, losses happen.
And guess what, it doesn't diminish the greatness of any of the fighters I've named.
Somewhere along the line, Mayweather became obsessed with his record, and as a result became very selective about who he fought. It became a business to him. And he's done an amazing job at it. Better then anyone I've ever seen.
But he has 'missed' a number of fighters that I believe he shouldn't have.
And as a result his legacy, in my eyes, will not be on par with many of the all-time greats throughout history.
