No one has been more critical of Canelo and his lack of quality opposition than me (except Brush Baby). He impressed last night, and deserved to win. I know he was idle for long periods of time, his stamina looked questionable, and was out landed by 30 blows. Don't matter. His defence was the best he has ever had, he landed all of the telling blows, his power had Trout tentative all night, and none of the punches he took fazed his one bit. I watched it twice and scored it 115-113 both times, and I scored the seventh round 10-9
Canelo deserved the nod last night

Trout won it on my scorecard by 1 point. He outworked Canelo for the most part; you say Canelo's defense was so good - well, defense without throwing punches doesn't win you the round. Pernell Whitaker was countering while slipping punches, Canelo was not countering when he moved his head. I thought the fight was very close but I felt Trout edged it. -
Actually, defence is a scoring criteria, albeit one that is mostly overlooked (including by myself). Throwing punches is not a criteria for scoring, effective aggression is - which includes landing punches. So, when Canelo was on the defensive and Trout was missing... by those criteria you should actually lean towards Canelo.Trout won it on my scorecard by 1 point. Although, I do agree with you that Canelo was letting rounds edge towards Trout at times by his refusal to open up with counter shots. It was very frustrating as a Canelo fan

I'm glad you acknowledge it and agree, too bad a lot of posters can't see it like you and the majority. The only bad card was the 118-109 other than that the other two judges Were pretty much on point and possibly scored the 7th 10-8 not 10-9 like yourself. No one has been more critical of Canelo and his lack of quality opposition than me (except Brush Baby). well this fight finally answered one question i had which was how would canelo look against a LEGIT and PRIME 154lber..and to me he didn't look like the dominant, future superstar that his fans keep going on about...I mean apart from the improvement in his defense, he still lacked in other areas. he looked to have poor stamina, he gets into too many lulls (allowed trout to press the action too many times and gave up rounds as a result), he tends to throw wild looping shots, etc..this was canelo's coming out party and he looked content with just getting away with the decision and not trying to get the KO (after knocking down trout he allowed him to rally back and almost make it a 10-9 round instead of a 10-8)...
i give canelo credit for FINALLY stepping up and fighting a legit 154lber in his prime, but i'm still not 100% sold on him...would like for him to fight someone like erislandy lara next..Comment

I can't take anyone serious who says cAnelo easily won. And I agree with above. It was a good win for cAnelo but he wasn't dominant at all and looks very beatable vs someone his own sizeComment
