It was a much closer fight than those cards- but Alvarez absolutely won the fight. I feel like he head hunted too much and used the wrong strategy but still managed to beat a very tricky, tough guy. Full props to Canelo, nobody can take this one away from him. The knockdown was a very telling moment.
I think Canelo should probably work on his conditioning.. and open scoring should probably never ever happen again.Comment

That is the same score I had. There were a few close rounds that could have went either way depending on who you liked. If they had it a closer score it would have seemed more fair even with Canelo winning, but it was clear that they had the results already predetermined. Golden boy is not messing with their future cash cow.Comment

You are a ******, ignorant piece of ****. You're bashing a great country over a boxing match? Go burn some crosses and sleep with your cousin you ****n *****.Trout was straight up robbed! He controled the fight and landed more punches!canelo is OVERRATED but we all knew this but damn! 118-109!? The money is with canelo but that is why boxing is dying! Winners are picked before the fight! Texas should be avoided by all fighters as Mexicans are always going to get the nod! Golden boy sucks and so does MEXICO!Comment

Anybody who had trout winning on the scorecards are idiots. Canelo clearly won that fight. Trout was hurt several times throughout the fight. Too many hard shots landed on Trout. Trout knew he was defeated. His interview was an exampleComment

Watched the fight once, scorecard basically looked like this:
R1. 9-10 Trout
R2. 10-9 Canelo
R3. 10-9 Canelo
R4. 10-9 Canelo
R5. 10-9 Canelo
R6. 9-10 Trout
R7. 10-8, Canelo, knockdown
R8. 9-10 Trout. I had to go Pacquiao-Marquez 3 slow mo on this one. A few bad angles (showtime feed), but Trout appeared to land about 3 cleaner shots, just edged it for me.
R9. 9-10 Trout
R10. 9-10 Trout
R11. 9-10 Trout
R12. 10-10 This round really could've gone either way for me. It was a Trout round for me until Canelo got through with about 4 good right hands in the last minute that tied it up imo. I found it difficult picking a winner tbh.
114-114 Draw. Obviously I would not disagree with a 114-113 Canelo or Trout victory. That sounds perfectly reasonable to me, as would a 115-112 scorecard. Besides that, close fight.
Canelo is a good fighter. I've long said he wasn't just hype, he just needed to go out there and prove it. In that regard, I guess he did. It wasn't emphatic, but it was a job done well enough. There is (and actually has been) a glaring flaw that many have noticed; his stamina and work rate will need improvement. Good fighters have gone long ways losing steam and/or taking rounds off; Shane Mosley/Miguel Cotto come to mind, but in an ideal Floyd Mayweather fight, this is not acceptable. Can you imagine a tired Alvarez trying to box Floyd Mayweather? Perhaps not as bad as, but something along the lines of Floyd vs Mosley, I imagine. That's not to say he shouldn't get a shot at Floyd, because that is a reasonable fight to make.
It should be said, a more active Alvarez would, almost certainly, come at the expense of his defense, which proved pretty good in this fight. And for a guy that rehydrated as much as he did, I was impressed with his ease of upper body movement. For a 22 year old young man, one has to wonder why he has stamina problems? I'm not sure he's yet big enough for 160, but I can't help but wonder if he's taking something out of himself getting down to 154???
Canelo's power, however, is still not something to make a big deal out of. He's a solid puncher, not a big puncher.
As for Trout, he was slower than I expected him to be. He didn't move his upper body as well as I'd have liked. He seemed off balance with his movement. Perhaps he was uncomfortable being the aggressor in that fight? I wanted him to win, I don't have him winning on the scorecards, and I don't think it's some ridiculous robbery. It was good fight
