Trout has just 1 KO in 9 fights and it was a weak opponent. This is one of trouts problems, he doesnt give it that extra push, just look at the Delvin fight

I've been saying since this fight was signed, that if Trout stayed composed against Cotto in MSG as well as win the fight, but do so in clear decisive fashion, that he'd win this fight. Despite the fact Cotto isn't in his complete prime, he still was a very high level fighter as evidenced when he fought Mayweather just 7 months before the Trout fight. And IMO Cotto is a more versatile fighter than Canelo is, Cotto can actually stalk and cut the ring off, things that just aren't in Canelo's nature. Canelo is predominantly a boxer/puncher who likes to stake out the middle of the ring and work from mid-range with hooks. Cotto is more of a pressure fighter who can get on his toes a bit and pump a very good jab.

The one thing that is similar between Saul and Cotto is their punch arsenals. Cotto has a very good left hook to the body, so does Canelo, Cotto has a very good right hand, so does Canelo. And, Trout dealt with these things from Cotto very well. The one thing Canelo doesn't have IMO that Cotto did which makes Cotto a harder style match-up for Trout, is a good jab and quick feet. Canelo isn't a pressure fighter. He's got slow feet and will always look a step slower than Trout on fight night. Trout is going to be too quick for Canelo to set his feet and work. I suspect this fight will be shockingly more one sided than Trout-Cotto due to the factors I stated above.

Also, are people forgetting Canelo's fight with Jose Cotto? A career lightweight who stepped up to JMW and fought Canelo? Canelo was SERIOUSLY hurt early in that fight, and ever since then I've had questions about how his chin would hold up against an elite 154 pound fighter. We know what kind of chin Trout has, he took flush shots from Cotto very well. We'll find out, but before even seeing this article, I had a feeling myself we're going to see Canelo get stopped by Trout. Now, after seeing this article, it seems even more likely that it can happen.

I initially thought Trout by UD. But, I'm going with what my gut is telling me. After Trout has consistently landed that strong and accurate straight left to the body all night, Canelo starts to slow down heavily and gravitates to the ropes, Trout gains confidence and starts to really work over Canelo, at the end of the 9th round, Canelo's corner says "If you don't start working, I'm stopping it." Canelo comes out and tries to charge Trout, who is just to clever defensively for Canelo, Canelo runs out of gas and in the second half of the 10th round, Trout gets Canelo on the ropes and unloads, Canelo's hands start to drop, and the ref steps in and says that's it. Trout TKO10.

Actually of all the fighters you've mentioned there Marquez is one of the smartest. He is highly intelligent and well spoken. He has had intriguing conversations in interviews on mexican channels, from politics to boxing.
You just woudn't know it unless you spoke spanish and watch the shows.

This is clearly the first time that Canelo is in DEEP in his career. He does not have a definitive size advantage, Trout has quicker feet and better movement, and Trout is also willing to **** on the inside when necessary. Canelo is going to have to dig in to pull a win out. With that being said, Trout also needs to be careful in this fight because Canelo is very skillful for being so young. He likes to set traps for his opponents and is a very strong fighter in his own right. I think both men are going to push each other, which leads me to the intangibles. Trout knows from experience that he can handle himself and rise to the occasion against a high level fighter because of his most recent win against Cotto. Alvarez does not have any such experience to draw from when this fight inevitably gets tough for him. It should be a good one, but I think Trout takes this fight. It will be close initially, but Trout will pull away in the middle rounds to take a decision or possibly a late round stoppage.
