Comments Thread For: Lewkowicz: Fortuna Will Become a Sergio Martinez Clone

On April 27, Sergio Martinez defends his middleweight crown against Martin Murray in his native Argentina on HBO, but this Friday, Martinez's stablemate Javier Fortuna fights for the first time in 2013, a Friday Night Fights main event against Miguel Zamudio.

Ace boxing talent evaluator Sampson Lewkowicz, who advises both Martinez and Fortuna, feels Fortuna is on the path to reaching Martinez's level. [Click Here To Read More]

Ok...so, am I missing something here? First, he says that he is dedicated to his craft which is fine...but then he says that he had his training camp in the Dominican Republic without the advise of his head coach Sarmiento? Is that not a little bit contradictory....oh, wait...I just remembered that Sarmiento is probably too busy with Martinez right now...that makes sense. Anyhow, I'm wondering now if Sarmiento will be at his corner or not tonight...anyone know?

Yeah...I hear you on that. Maybe in a year or two he will be more prepared but the truth is Fortuna can actually box more than he let's believe because he loves to go at too much. So, we will see once he steps up to higher competition....

Fortuna is pretty good but he needs to work on his cardio and combination punching to be anything close to Sergio imo. Jayson Velez fights more like Sergio does than fortuna does I think. With some fine tuning Culcay could be something close to Sergio as well....that guy has a very unorthodox style and seems pretty athletic as well.

at this point Gary Russell is almost made himself irrelevant. yes we all know he has a lot of talent but the guy needs to step it up and ducking Luis Franco doesn't help his case. until he actually beats somebody with a pulse all of his talent is a waste. we've seen this before with Andre Berto.

Ponce de Leon is just keeping his belt warm for Abner Mares, really he's just a place holder for GBP's bigger investment with Mares.

with Donaire coming up to 126 you can forget about Juanma Lopez or Garcia. Arum will probably make those fights 1st

Nicholas Walters or Evgeny Gradovich are probably his best bet to win a title

              Fortuna fights like Sergio

I think Mike is right. I noticed in Fortuna's last fight, he is copying Sergio's style. Fortuna should remember what happened to Berto when he tried to use Mayweather's sholder roll against Guerrero.

Actually, if you have not noticed Fortuna has been fighting like that since I can remember. As to what happened to Berto that was a one time thing that he tried and it didn't work....thus far it has been working for Fortuna so your comparison does not hold water in this case.

First get him to the right weight class and to make weight... how about that? That was idiotic, to make Fortuna fight at 126.
