Really not a fan of Fury, to be honest, but it'll be interesting to see how he does vs. this kind of opposition.
Is America ready to feel the Fury?

Earl, what happens if Fury doesn't look great against Cunningham? Cunningham isn't a great heavyweight, and is more of a blown up Cruiserweight than Haye is. If Fury struggles against him, what does it mean?
It's a step up to me, but Cunningham really is the bottom of the better fighters of the division currently.
Genuine question, I know you're a fan so i'm just wondering what you'd make of it
He's only 24 years old, and has only been training seriously since uncle pete took over 3 fights ago.
Cunningham, though smaller is still a seasoned campaigner, and is used to mixing it at the elite level, time and time again. He easily beat Marco Huck, who gave WBA champ Povetkin all he could handle AT heavyweight, and I thought he easily beat Adamek who is considered a top contender at heavyweight, and a two weight world champion. Cunningham is also fast, and will use his size to present an elusive target. Hard to look good against.
Fury is far from the finished article, this is a fight where he certainly should get the W but it'll be a good barometer of where he is by judging the quality of the performance.
In all honesty i'd be satisfied with an 8-4, 116-112 type victory, plus a knockdown. At this stage that would be an acceptable performance vs this type of opponent. Any closer than that and Fury is not as far along as I thought.Last edited by Earl-Hickey; 04-18-2013, 07:41 AM.Comment

It means he needs more training and development.

That doesn't mean Cunningham is a bad opponent, I just believe his best weight is at Cruiserweight, where even there he has some harsh challenges.
He is young, I just didn't want to see Fury hyped up to high heaven if he scores an average UD against Cunningham. If he's ready for title contention, he should be outclassing or knocking this guy out. You know how weird the British boxing community is with our fightersComment

I don't think Tyson is such a good fighter as Earl thinks, and we'll see that clearly on Saturday. But from I've seen I think his cousin Hughie has potential to be great fighter. If there will ever be HW champ named Fury, it's gonna be Hughie.Comment

In all fairness though, Huck was only 19-0 at that point, and I'd pick Huck over Cunningham at both weights atm, though obviously some would disagree. And he did lose twice to Hernandez. Adamek is an average HW at best, he was a far better LHW/CW.
