Comments Thread For: Sampson Would Advise Martinez To Quit if Murray Wins

If WBC middleweight champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez (50-2-2, 28KOs), 38-years-old, loses his crown on April 27th against Britain's Martin Murray (25-0-1, 11KOs) - "he has to quit boxing,” said his adviser Sampson Lewkowicz.

But Sampson stressed that such a thing won’t occur as he predicts Martinez will win the fight by knockout inside of the first eight rounds. Lewkowicz recalled that he said the same thing before the championship fight between Martinez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., which took place last September in Las Vegas - and saw Martinez dominate eleven of the twelve rounds.

There is no call for a rematch with Chavez. It is a complete waste of time. It only serves to milk the Mexican/ Mexican American fans for another payday. Martinez needs to worry about legacy at his age. I think if he went and fought Golovkin, Geale, and another top level middlewight ( or a top SMW at a catchweigh of say 163 or 164), he would be all time great without any debate. He should fight this fight against Murray and then those other three opponents of the next year and a half and be retired before 40.
