If so you would know..getting rocked in the chin with a power shot even with headgear on isn't pleasant, nor does it take away too much from the impact..headgear is meant to protect against concussions from falls when you get knocked down and from cuts and headbutts..

If anything having no headgear is an advantage for some..given that those with good head movement have a smaller target to get landed on...

I think the presumption for those who tipped against him was that he couldn't go 12 rounds without getting tagged with something significant. And sure enough he didn't. It's just that he took those shots really well. Once he could take Donaire's power the game was up really. He was never going to be outboxed.
