Comments Thread For: Dereck Chisora Hopes For David Price, World Title Shot

Outspoken British heavyweight Dereck Chisora believes he will "destroy" Hector Alfredo Avila at Wembley Arena on April 20.

The former British and Commonwealth champion features in a 10-round fight against Avila on his comeback following a suspension by the British Board of Control.

The Zimbabwean-born Londoner hasn't stepped into the ring since David Haye knocked him out in the fifth round at Upton Park in July last year, which was one of the most exciting fights on British soil in recent years.

In his previous fight, Chisora took on long-standing WBC champion Vitali Klitshko and came the closest to beating the Ukrainian giant since Lennox Lewis fought him 10 years previously.

Chisora still has lots left in the tank, if he keeps working hard, he can give Wlad a tough challenge down the road.

He might have some decent boxing skills, but he is not smart enough to get himself in the position to fight for the title anytime soon.

He basically had 4 chances and he missed them all.

        What? :S

He's had less than 20 fights, and already fought 4 top 15 guys, Haye, Klitschko, Helenius and Fury. He should have handed Helenius his first defeat if it wasn't for home cooking, made Vitali look very human, and admitedly was his own fault, but if he'd turned up in shape against Fury may well have beaten him too. He's clearly been pretty smart to get that many big fights so few fights into his career. If he gets rid of his warm up opponent, and beats or loses a close fight to Price after (assuming Price wins his rematch- Big If) he's straight back in the top 10 and title contention.

Plus he's clearly smart enough to know wins and losses aren't the only way to get big fights. He manufactured a fight and big pay day against Haye fantastically. He'll also be remembered for the spitting incident - I bet you Wlad would love his chance to KO him. He's controversial and that **** sells.

Agreed. Chisora is a character, and the HW division in particular lacks characters.

I would back Chisora all day long against Price. Unless Price could get him out of there in the first minute of the first round, he'd have Dereck crawling all over him until he eventually wears down.
