  • Comments Thread For: Oosthuizen-Gonzalez Wrapped Up, No Nelson vs. Clottey

A deal is basically wrapped up for IBO super middleweight champion Thomas Oosthuizen (21-0, 13 KOs) to make a defense of his title against undefeated Brandon Gonzalez (17-0, 10 KOs) on June 29th as part of an HBO televised tripleheader. The main event features a middleweight fight between WBA/IBO middleweight king Gennady Golovkin (26-0, 23 KOs) and top contender Matthew Macklin (29-4, 20 KOs). The card takes place at Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Mashantucket, CT.

The card will be promoted by Dibella so he's probably trying to build Oosthuizen as an opponent for Edwin Rodriguez. Some good things going on at 160 and 168.

Oosthuizen would be damn near unstoppable if he just packed a little more of a punch. I like the guy though. Lots of heart.

I always want to hear the offer they give people when they say they're overpricing them.... to see if it's B.S or not.

I don't know, I think he lacks a lot more than just power. That said I think he is pretty good so far.

Gonzalez originally agreed to fight Rosinsky and backed out due to a phantom injury.. What a load of crap.

Yeah the power is definitely an issue for him along with a very average defence. That said though, he is pretty tough, has a solid chin and throws a lot of punches for such a big lad. I'd say that he will be very difficult to outpoint by any smw other then Ward right now.

I see he has a draw with Chilemba on his record. I wonder who really won that fight.

we will probably never know but i found these reports

Chilemba (76.04kg) landed the cleaner punches throughout most of the fight and was rather unfortunate not to receive the decision against the rather tentative Oosthuizen (75.64kg) who never let his punches flow.

However, a good many observers thought Chilemba had done enough to win by at least two points.

For a guy with his height and wingspan, he fights on the inside extremely well. He does give up his height at times though.
