So, we know Bute wasn't invited to the Super Six tournament, but what if he had? Could he have won it all, and if not, then how far could he have made it? How would he have fared against Dirrell, Ward, and Abraham? Would Froch have been able to beat him, or would he have been too "green"? How would his career have been different if he won the tournament?
If Lucian Bute had been invited to the Super Six...

I'd pick everyone except Taylor against him, knowing what we know now. Even Abraham, though Bute could easily win that one as well.
There's no way he beats Ward, Froch, Kessler, or Dirrell. -
He beats Abraham by wide decision.
Dirrell has the ability to outbox him but Bute has the power to hurt him and make him run like a b*tch and/or fall down like he always does.
Froch would have knocked him out and Andre Ward would have boxed his ears off.Comment

We knew what we know now even back then, when he nearly died against Andrade and the ref had to save him from an embarrassing KO loss.Comment

True. He still had the hype though, and people assumed that to be a random rough patch.
That hype is completely gone now, there's no mistaking what Bute is.Comment

he knocks out taylor and he should beat abraham, either on points or by stoppage. but if abe catches him it would be savage, i dont think he would though. bute beats kessler imo, mikkel has a pucnhers chance like abraham but like abraham he doesnt have the skills or smarts to land unless bute fcks up and makes a big mistake, which he tends to do from time to time but you still have to go with the better fighter. with dirrell its the same scenario but in the opposite direction, i would favor the matrix by a wide margin. ward schools him and stops him in the mid to late rounds.Last edited by #1Assassin; 04-10-2013, 12:10 PM.Comment

I think the only one that he clearly would have beat was Jermaine Taylor, who had the last bit of his prime beat out of him when Froch finished him off in their April 2009 fight. I think I would give him the slight edge to beat Abraham if they fought early in the tourney(easier if later in the tourney).
As someone already pointed out, he showed a huge flaw when he got that totally undeserved win in the first Andrade fight. Its not that Bute suddenly lost it(IMO) as he had nothing but easy fights while everyone in the S6 went through a grueling schedule, most notably Froch. Then Froch comes out and obliterates Bute after being dominated by Ward.Comment

I remember being shocked an astonished at the number of members of this site that thought Bute would son Froch. They lied to him, saved him from his ko loss by Andrade and thought they had something good as he entered the ring against Froch. There's no way he would have won it.
However I do think he'd have done reasonably well against Ward. Drop an 7-5, or 8-4 type ud. Abraham and of course Froch would be his most n=dangerous fights.Comment
