Comments Thread For: Rigondeaux on Donaire: I Will Engage, I'll Be Aggressive

Nonito Donaire hasn’t forgotten the monotonous nature of his utterly forgettable fight against Omar Narvaez.

In fact, “The Filipino Flash” feels as though he owes New York fights fans an action-packed performance Saturday night in his first appearance there since the Narvaez farce in October 2011. Though an intimidated, reluctant Narvaez deserved most of the blame for their thoroughly boring bout, Donaire intends to deliver as many memorable moments as possible during his high-stakes, 122-pound championship unification fight against unbeaten Cuban Guillermo Rigondeaux at Radio City Music Hall (11 p.m. ET/PT).

It’ll help, of course, that other than that they’re both southpaws there is little similar about the light-punching Narvaez (38-1-2, 20 KOs) and the dangerous, diverse Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KOs). [Click Here To Read More]

I doubt Pedro Diaz is that dumb that he will tell Rigo to engage/be more aggressive.

he needs to be aggressive with his jab, he tends to get hit too much when he just hangs back and waits. needs to get nonito's respect early

The narvaez fight wasn't all Harvard's fault.

narvaez had his hands up all night and had his elbows damn near to his chest, and donaire never went to the body.

The whole fight I was thinking... "why the hell doesn't he go to his body", since that's what you do when a guy won't lower his hands.

Looking forward to Saturday. I think Donaire will find his range sometime around the 3rd round and put down the chinny Rigo.

                    *yawn*

Why does boxingscene keep printing what trainers/fighters say before fights? It's all hype. They're not going to promise a boring fight, are they?

If you think Rigo is going to be really aggressive, then I've got a bridge to nowhere to sell you.

He'll be looking to strictly counter. His team will have seen that trading with Donaire will get you knocked down/out. He'll know Donaire has a good chin and is prepared to get hit in order to get his own shots home. Rigo will be looking to move and counter all night and if you expect anything different, you're gullible.

Rigo's best bet is to make Donaire reach and swing and catch him off balance to score a flash knockdown or two.

I expect Donaire will be pretty aggressive. If he can land on Rigo, it will be an easy night.
