How far do you think China's Zou Shiming could make it in boxing? Could he potentially win a world title one day, or at least become a high ranking contender?
Zou Shiming: How far could he go in this sport?

We only saw him once now, it's hard to tell. He wasn't very impressive in that fight, but time will tell. Anyone can have nerves and have an off night. -
he looked terrific for a fighter in his pro debut. fighters in a debut generally look like they don't know what to do. he new exactly what he needed to do, and how to do it.
he had some speed, what looked like very good timing, and some ok pop for a flyweight. he'll get better in each pro fight and after each pro training camp. there will be plenty of top sparring at wildcard.
that said, he's 31. that's really not a prospect, even though he's in the prospect stage of his career. usually, especially with a tiny little guy like shiming, you're dealing with a very young man when you're talking about a prospect at 112 lbs. this isn't the case with shiming. physically, in terms of his power, chin, speed, etc he has peaked. in terms of his talent, he will only go backwards at this stage of his career. the early 30's are generally when men of that size start to think about retiring. shiming has to learn how to box professionally. that's not going to be easy.
shiming will be in some big fights, though. china has the largest economy in the world. their middle class is among the fastest growing in the world. shiming is a star there. professional boxing exists to make money. fighters fight for money, and promotors pay them and incur the risks involved with a business like boxing to profit. because of that, he will get near the top of the sport, in terms of his earnings.
whether or not he can win at the top at 112 i cannot say, as i'm not incredibly familiar with eh division to the point where i can forecast the top fighters in 2 years time, and gauge whether or not shiming can beat them.Comment

Will be interesting to see how he performs against experienced, aggressive pros. He's a very accurate puncher with great timing but you could see him being walked down and overwhelmed by a ****er. He never really looked he had a style that could transfer easily to the pro game and to be honest his debut only reinforced that belief.Comment

I personally think he's a KO waiting to happen if he ever gets that far. But I'm glad for him and the Chinese community that they have someone to watch now.
