Legendary retired Croatian boxer Zeljko Mavrovic is set to make a comeback in the ring at the ripe old age of 43. Mavrovic, known as the 'Saka sa Srednjaka' ('Fist from Srednjaci', the suburb in Zagreb he is from), will fight Serbian Enad Licina in Hamburg, Germany on 27 April, reports Jutarnji list
I fear its abit late now especially if he is draining down to cruiserweight in his old age but this was one tough guy.
Whilst Lewis was blowing away guys like Briggs, Grant, Golota etc, Maveric managed to stay on his feet for 12 rounds and even take the fight to Lewis in a few of those rounds.
Good fighter whos career was cut short. Hope he has something left.
He was a tough dude and one of the first Eastern European heavyweights to come through and really begin to challenge the old order of the USA dominating the heavyweight rankings and titles.
Not sure why a guy who always turned up in tip-top shape and was a big, strong mobile heavyweight feels he needs to come back as a cruiserweight. That does seem like an odd decision.
