Roy Jones Jr RESUME IN HIS HEYDAY

I only started following Boxing CLOSELY in 2006 (when I joined this site haha) and I'm too young to remember how it was in the 90's but one ATG fighter we had/have is RJJ who was just outclassing the likes of Hopkins/Toney in the early/mid 90's but his resume isn't too impressive after that. I have also heard of other fighters ducking him and him ducking fighters just for that easy HBO money fighting cans.

When Mayweather/Pac or any other big time name in Boxing fights cans now they get a lot of heat from the fans but did RJJ receive this during the late 90's/early 00's? How bad was it? It's shocking that the RJJ v Hopkins rematch did not happen between 2000-2002 because from what I have read it was close to happening just a little money issue.

So did he get a LOT of heat from the fans? Who should he have fought instead?

Roy jones jr did get a lot of crap by the press for not fighting guys who were not at the elite level but he beat the 2 guys who were elite hopkins and toney. In his prime he beat everyone who he faced decisively and the people he did not face he would have beat anyway in my opinion.

He got heat, every fighter that dominates a division gets heat, but I remember a lot of it being because he didn't press for knockouts and let guys he was leagues better than hang around longer than they should.

Not many people knocked his resume itself, just how he was winning.

IMHO RRJ in his prime was as close a mythical fighter as there couldve been. His only loss in his prime coming in the form of DQ because Griffin decided to take a dive after getting hit on the ground(a fight Roy was about to end anyways a winner) in the rematch Roy showed just how easy he could dominate if he wanted to via a 1st round KO. He even said " I have to let the fight go on and put on a show, otherwise you people will think my opposition is too easy for me" lol that takes balls to say...

Also it was been noted several time that when his corner said "finish him off in this rounnd" Roy would go out and KO or TKO his opponent in that round

Also, his opponents werent so elite but that was also due to lack of promotion. He faced many fighters that today would be SOOOOO HYPED UP that everyone would think he was facing hopking / toney every match

He is regarded by many as the most talented boxer ever, right up ther with SRR,Ali, SRL. I agree, his style in the ring had no equal... He just looked so damn good in the ring, it hurts to see what the latter of his career has become...

To compare, imagine floyd fans, afters years of hanging on to the "0" floyd starts to lose and get KTFO like 10-12 times at the end, tarnishing his legacy... seeing floyd on the canvas everynight stumbling to get up... well Roy was better than Floyd so it hurts more lol lol

Never like Roy Jones for some reason. Always rooted against him.

hard to knock out guys that just fought to survive once they felt jones' countering ability. otherworldly. even Hopkins was scared of it in their rematch.
