PACQUIAO HOLD MEDIA WORKOUT
LOS ANGELES, CA.- Manny Pacquiao held a media workout Thursday afternoon at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, CA, where he is currently preparing for his scheduled rematch against Erik "Terrible" Morales on January 21, 2006.
Pacquiao, who lost their initial battle by way of a unanimous decision, is certain that things will be different this time around.
"I want Manny to do a better job staying off of the ropes," said Roach. "It's something we've been working on. You will see a much better fight this time around."
Roach, who has kept the gym locked during Pacquiao's training sessions, to prevent the hordes of spectators from distracting the 27-year-old Filipino.
After Pacquiao entered the ring, he stretched for several minutes before throwing on a pair of "Winning" boxing gloves; the same brand he wore for his first meeting with Morales. He immediately began hitting the mitts, with the rest of the gym looking on.
His movement was surprising. Not so much, the fact that he was moving around more, but at how well he moved. During their first fight, Morales drove Pacquiao to the ropes on several occasions, prompting him to put his gloves in front of his face, in a completely defensive posture, which invited Morales to continue punching.
On past occasions, most of the media stood dazzled by Pacquiao's handspeed and power. This time, he threw in a mix of handspeed, power, and some much improved foot-movement, which he hopes to put on display next weekend at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
"The Battle" - Morales vs. Pacquiao II will take place next Saturday, January 21, 2006 from the Thomas & Mack Center. The fight will be televised on HBO PPV, beginning at 9:00ET/6:00PT.
