McCall could have been the Mayorga of the heavyweights

I have a hard time understanding why this man was not more successful. Huge punch, GRANITE chin...but insane. McCall seriously had the tools to be one of the better heavyweights of the last 15-20 years. He was in amazing shape and had a great physique too. He should have made himself more exciting though. The guy doesn't do anything Mayorga doesn't do. I remember he was acting crazy before both Lewis fights, when he knocked Lewis out he did the splits (RATINGS!), and he was throwing Christmas trees and acting all crazy in interviews. Maybe the world of the 90's just wasn't ready for an Oliver McCall. He'd have been a huge hit nowadays. I mean look at Mayorga. Granite chin and big punch. Wrecks his car before the Trinidad fight and ****s a girl, and his fanbase gets HUGE. I'll admit it, I'm a big fan of Mayorga. And I think I would have been a big fan of McCall too when he was WBC champ.

Anybody think he can still make some noise at heavy?

i seriously doubt it. the guy is 42 for one thing. IMO, his punch isnt THAT huge, but he does carry some pop. his chin is granite, yes.

i think the problem was his crying bit he did in the lewis rematch. that totally blew anything he had going for him. he hasnt been the same since.

wasnt very skilled, either.

i dont think hes anything like mayorga.

not really skilled, but gifted. allow be to explain.

if he was skilled, he would be able to jab, move, box, you know, skilled stuff. but hes gifted in the sense that dispite hes a severe smoker, he still has plenty of stamina. he also has this ability to catch boxers who are trying to stay away, like he did with spinks (a fight that ricardo won, IMO) and forrest.

powerful punches, an iron chin, a good share of stamina, exciting style. the perfect slugger.

hes gifted, but not skilled.

mccall is neither skilled, nor gifted respectfuly. mayorga is not skilled, but hes gifted.

But McCall doesn't have the mental state that Mayorga has.

Mayorga could fight King Kong and not give a ****.

** Here's a big newsflash for ya: Mayorga ain't any better than McCall. In fact, he's worse, he got KOed. McCall has never been dropped and beat a better fighter in Lewis than Mayorga ever beat.

I remember Lewis following McCall around the ring, punching him with some good shots and all the while McCall just looked like Lewis was a bother. Funny in a way but sad.You're right he could have been a very good champ
