Rocky Fielding is hoping the extra hours in the gym will pay off when he takes on Sheffield's Wayne Reed in Liverpool on Saturday night.
The Scouser will make the first defence of his English super-middleweight title at the Echo Arena in front of a huge, patriotic crowd.
And Fielding's many followers can expect to see a new, improved fighter with the 25-year-old spending much of 2013 working on his conditioning.
"I'd never picked a weight up in my life until now," he told Sky Sports. "But now I'm English champion I've got to do things that get me through 10 and 12 round fights.
