Comments Thread For: Ricky Burns To Face Chelo Gonzalez, 5/11 In Glasgow

By Jake Donovan - Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Sport promised to hit the ground running upon signing Ricky Burns.

Its first task for the current lightweight titlist was a race against a clock, as a deal was struck for a promised homecoming.

Burns' next fight - and first since signing with Matchroom Sport earlier this month - will come May 11 in his homeland, as he defends against unbeaten mandatory challenger Jose 'Chelo' Gonzalez. The bout will take place at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, to air live on Sky Sports. [Click Here To Read More]

This is a bad look for Burns. Should be a slightly postponed Vazquez fight instead.

In all fairness, Ricky needs a tuneup. It's been a while since his last fight and if he really wants to fight the other champions he needs to be ready.

What a surprise Burns not fighting another champion.

Burns will fight a good opponent next. This is Hearn, he put Akexander for Brook, Bute for Froch (Or Kessler) and will make Vasquez vs Burns next if he can. He believes win or lose a great match will pull in the seats.

I think Chelo can pull it off! He is very accurate and although Burns is a little more technically sound, Chelo's power can easy become a factor. His boxing is defense is pretty good too. Will be a good fight either way.
