Is there an idea body type for heavyweight boxing?

I always thought the Somoan body type was close to perfect for boxing.

ie they have solid chins I mean really solid, heavy heavy hands, they are strong short and powerful, with long arms!

Im not sure you could design a better body type than that!?

I'll leave you up to researching the perfect body type of other guys...

but I think the ideal heavyweight is one weighing more than 200pds, only requirement as far as I know.

      Depends on style.

Personally I still think it's Tyson, average mans height, but solid, nice and fast, good leverage, head movement.

I don't think these 6'6"+ guys have the perfect attributes, I just think the Klitschkos are superior athletes right now

        No.

There is no ideal body type.

Only the ideal mindset. Boxing, like any combat sport, is not only a battle of fists but also a battle of wills.

You could have the best physical attributes in the world, but if you have a weak will then you will crumple up like a dead spider when your stronger willed opponent dominates you from start to finish.

I have been waiting for this type of thread. From what I have seen from the days of big George to the klitschko's, I believe that heavyweight boxing is now about the super heavyweights. They are the ideal body type. The long powerful jab and the ability to keep opponents at bay. But like the poster above said its the mindset for example Lewis and wlad pre and post steward showed skill was only required to become that absolute killing machine

Someone with Ali's build I guess. I think bigger fighters ( Like the K brothers and Valuev [extreme example]) run the risk of tiring quickly when the fight is not at their pace whilst shorter fighters like Tyson could be bamboozled by a well timed/placed jab.

I would say a 6"3/6"4 Mike Tyson with long arms. Tall enough to somewhat jab with the 6"6 ers but short enough to use leverage as a key advantage. Also, low enough to the ground to move around faster than most heavyweights but thick enough to absorb punches. (Obviously all of the attributes assume a good chin, will and all those intangibles that we cannot quantify)

                  no way.

it's too much extra work to have to fight taller and longer guys constantly. those guys almost always have short careers.

At least 6'3 and weighing around 225 pounds. And that is still a lot smaller then the Klits.
