    Miguel Cotto Question

I like watching Miguel Cotto fight, but everytime I see him he is in a bad position. His last two or three fights he has gotten hurt and he looked like he was going to lose. But credit to him, he always finds a way to comeback and win. This friend I know who loves boxing and is a big Miguel Cotto fan, keeps telling me that I havn't seen him at his best yet. My question is, have I seen Cotto at his best and he has just been in some tough fights? Or does he just not have a good chin but has managed to get by? Is he overated or underated? Also can someone tell me about some of Cotto's better performances?

He destroyed a very good boxer in Kelson Pinto. Pinto was clearly the superior boxer, but Cotto just kept hammering him down every time Pinto was about to snatch a round. Keep in mind, Pinto beat him twice in the amateurs so Cotto had that over his head too.

He knocked out Victoriano Sosa, who Mayweather beat on the cards. He pummeled Lovemore NDou, who arguably beat Sharmba Mitchell before the 2nd Tszyu fight. He stopped Corley where Judah and Mayweather couldn't. Sure the stoppage was B.S., but Corley was in a bad way and early too. He obliterated Randall Bailey on the Klitschko-Williams undercard when a lot of people expected Bailey to expose him.

He looked awesome in the fight with Adbdullaev too (another guy who beat him in the amateurs), and Abdullaev was supposed to be a superior boxer too.

The only way to beat Cotto is to nail him with a good punch early and pray he doesn't get up. If he gets up, you're probably getting knocked out yourself.

Well everytime you seen him fght, was just last year! He had four or three fights in 05, and hes been boxing for five or six years. Hes actually looked hurt in only two fights. Mind you, with all that, he will be a better fighter than Judah or cant get any worse so really, whats to worry about...

Watch the Cotto/Sosa fight, he won practically every round and scored an impressive ko. That to me is his best fight. Victoriano was 37-3 with loses to PBF, and Paul Spadofora, neither of them hurt him. The Randal bailey, and Cesar Bazan fights were also impressive.

Personally I do not think that Cott has a great chin, but I definately think that he does not have a bad one. He was hit by many clean left hooks on the point of the jaw by Torres. Those punches would have rocked anyone! He was also rocked by Chop Chop, with one shot that was right on the temple.

I personally think that Cotto's only weakness is his defense. If he worked on his defense, he would get hit alot less. The only fight that he has ever had that was close is the Torres fight and Torres only won 2 rounds out of seven. All of the others have been landslides.

            haha.good assesment.

Cotto's weakness is that he takes chances. But thats also probably another reason to like him.Have we seen him at his best? I personally dont think so, I think we'll see him at his best when he fights a top guy and rises to the occasion.

And It's still to be seen how he'll look @ 147 in the future.

the thing is that you should NEVER sleep on a guy like Cotto...a guy that can hurt you with one punch, and a guy that can come BACK from being hurt, be serious, keep his composure, and then knock you out...

it is easy to just say "oh he has a weak chin, ANYONE would beat him..."

sure throw Castillo in there with him...Castillo lands a few shots, hurts him, Cotto makes it out of the round...Castillo goes to finish him, Cotto counters with a big left hook that is probably stronger than Chico's...hurts Castillo...etc...etc...

never EVER cound someone like him out...

i have only seen him twice... abdulaev and torres... torres sure rocked him but he did good to avoid the KO... i'll buy the idea that he is good, but with a suspect chin... if he fights the top-tier fighters in his division and upcoming divisions, he's in trouble...

IMO, Torres has a stronger punch than most if not all of the division, including Cotto and Hatton.
