As with nearly everything else, there isn't a simple answer; but the tiny population has something to do with it.
correct me if i am wrong, but just a while guessitmate.. but i believe cuban's/cuba have more sports than just boxing..I think they mainly concentrate on soccer and baseball. From what i can understand, philippines dont have much sports or any outstanding areas where they stand out for sports. So once they found out that Manny stands out they support him thoroughly. Sorry to go off topic

Cubans probably play even less soccer than Americans do. That's saying a lot. The main Cuban sports are baseball and boxing. Cuban fans in the US are more interested in baseball. (I can't speak for the Cubans on the island.) More Cuban baseball players have managed to make it to the US, while the influx of boxers has been fairly recent. It'll probably be some time before Cubans in the US truly embrace one of their own.

I caught that earlier; reported for racism. Let's see how serious the mods are to sticking to their word.

I've never understood why Arce is rated so highly, gutsy guy in his day but his record is littered with absolute cans.

For the record I legitimately feel Corboda beats all of those guys, probably including the version of Nishioka that Donaire faced too
I think Marroquinn would have a good chance of beating most of them too at the stages they was at when they fought Donaire.

I think Donaires a good fighter but carefully matched and caught a lot of guys at the right time.

Donaire has better wins than the ones listed you seem to be naming more for names sake. Mthalane (has bounced back well) & Darchinyan were much better wins.
Regardless your opinion on those fighters, they are all better than the ones that Rigo has faced. Rigo has skills but he is against a special fighter

Donaire is very good, no doubt, but I don't see him as more "special" than Rigo. Nonito is much more accomplished on the professional level, but that simply means he's proven. Guillermo looks at least as impressive to observe, although in somewhat different ways. This fight will settle a lot of debates.

im filipino, im a huge fan of guillermo, he's a winner, i think he can beat nonito, but if he gets hit with that left hook by nonito, its over, he got hurt before with a left hook, i think he won't survive this one.

Lol, Donaire has faught against better competition, they dont compare to Marroquin-prospect, Kennedy-prospect, Ramos-LOL.

Rigo is a great boxer/puncher. Will be interesting to see both these guys go at it, both are very well matched.
