Comments Thread For: Golovkin Expects Hard Fight, Ishida Vows To Retire if Beat

When Nobuhiro Ishida stepped inside the ring at the MGM Grand to face hard-hitting James Kirkland on April 9th, 2011, many writers and fights fans wondered how long it would take Kirkland to stop Ishida.

It was not fair to Ishida, considering he had never been stopped or knocked out in his professional career. But Kirkland had destroyed his opposition up to that point.

Less than two minutes into the fight, it was Ishida celebrating a knockout win, while Kirkland has had to deal with personal issues that have dogged his career.

Less than two years later, Ishida finds himself in familiar territory. He is facing a stronger and dangerous opponent in Gennady Golovkin, a fighter who has emerged as an unbeatable force in boxing thus far. [Click Here To Read More]

Why do fighters do that, a fight that there's a high possibility they'll lose, they say they retire if they lose. Might as well say i'm going to retire after this fight, regardless of the outcome. I mean I wish Ishida wins, he's a tough fighter and would fight anyone, but he's not going to knock GG out, maybe he can outbox him but i'm not sure if he even has a chance to do that.

Ishida is tough, but he'll be retiring. Can't picture a way he gets the upset.

maybe he's the type of guy that wants to be number 1 or at the top level of the sport and losing to Golovkin he would think that he's no longer there anymore

Or maybe he's like, I'm about to take career ending punishment, might as well pretend it's my decision to retire.

Ishida is a bada$$ all the way though, not wishing this on him at all
