    Does Provodnikov have boxing skill?

I've been listening to a boxing radio talkshow and host thinks Providnikov only has power but no boxing skill.

Your thoughts, does Ruslan have boxing skill or is his just a plodder with punching power?

What skills do you think he shows?

He's a plodder with some dangerous punching power, similar to say....Maidana in my view. If Bradley fought Maidana like that, he'd be close to getting KTFO.

That's why I found it funny that Arum says Provonikov would kill Alexander. Alexander would just do exactly what he did against Maidana against Ruslan.

Lucky for Provonikov though, he'll be dangerous for anyone on Top Rank from 140-147 though because it's not really a deep stable of good fighters there aside from Pac, Bradley, and Rios.

I think Provonikov is more skilled inside than Maidana. If you look at his shots, especially the left hook and right hand, he throws them very nice and accurate.

His problem is that he doesn't move his head, doesn't use a jab on his way in and his defense is terrible. Let's remember, he was hit a lot by Bradley.

Maidana is now using his jab more but isn't as strong as Provonikov. He's a 140lber, where as the Russian is very strong at 147.

P'kov is bigger, stronger and faster than Maidana - with a better punch resistance (body and head). P-kov would either kill Alexander or Alexander would set the world record for most clinches in a 12 boxing match.

Ruslan moved up. He acclamated to 147 well but I wouldn't say he's stronger than Maidana

I think Ruslan has better upper body movement than Maidana. You gotta keep in mind he was gassed. He has good timing and I think his hands are a little quicker than Maidana's as well.

I think you're harsh comparing Maidana to Ruslan. Maidana looks crude but he can box and has a lot of energy, if you watch the Soto-Karass fight you actually see Maidana showing decent skills.

Bold statement. I actually believe Devon has been better at welterweight and i'm almost certain he'd put a thorough beating on Provodnicov.

But on the original subject, Ruslan is a skilled pressure fighter through and through. The only problem with him is his conditioning. Pressure fighters live and die by conditioning. If you're a pressure fighter that tires, you won't last long among the elite.

Honestly he looked like he was ready to quit to me. He has fortitude, that's for sure.

Homie, you think Maidana would quit? Only way he'd quit is if you send him out on a stretcher.
