I agree with every one of you. This is a very bad move for GBP. Only time will tell if burning this bridge will affect their master plan. As far as I can tell, GBP and Al Haymon have been two very powerful en****** in the last few years, but HBO has always been the Godfather of Boxing and this move will show who's in power in the next decade.

great move by goldenboy.HBO has itself to blame.putting all the eggs in pacquiaos basket then he got put to sleep.HBO chose chavez over canelo so this is what you get.one things for sure is that arum won't be keeping his own fighters from each other anymore or topstank and HBO will lose out severely

Win for HBO! I've got respect for the way Hershman has been responsible with his budget under SHO, managing to score competitive bouts with limited money. Now he's trying to clean up HBO from all this guaranteed future fights, non competitive bouts and greedy promoters trying to dictate terms.

HBO is the provider (meaning they pay) and boxing is the user: GBP, TR, Dibella, etc. (meaning they get paid). GBP has the game backwards, the user never dictates to the provider. Doing business or negotiating is one thing, but dictating is another. Good luck of getting your entire roster paid under one provider GBP!

Wrong, HBO chose Chavez vs Martinez over Canelo vs Lopez. They decided on the merit of the actual bout without blindly paying for one fighter vs whomever.

GBP will be fine because its not just Showtime. CBS is involved in the deal too and they have tons of cashflow to put any card together they want. If it was just Showtime vs HBO than maybe it would be a huge risk. But CBS has the NFL revenue coming in which can be invested in the merger.

I don't think this hurts GB, because they had to see it coming. They've probably already planned for this. SHO will get more subscribers, will probably cut GB deals on good fights and HBO will show TR fights and not much else. SHO have tied hands at this point because there is nowhere for GB to go but SHO and no ones putting fights on SHO except GB. Its like boxing is turning into wcw vs wwf. Eventually one will fall off though.

It doesn't hurt Golden Boy; unless your a idiot ala PacdaBest or Check Hooks if your a fan canelo or whoever you will watch if they fought Disney Jr.

of course it will hurt GBP.... Showtime has a budget and won't be able to pay every boxer what they think is due them, especially with Floyd looting the budget to fight 2x a year

Great point. I am a huge Canelo fan, but Martinez vs Chavez was clearly a better fight.

I also thought Arum made a really good point. Most best fights (not the names, but the fights) going on right now are / have been on HBO.

Bradley vs Prov. - HBO <== Barn burner.
Rios vs Alv. - HBO <== pitching a tent.
Donaire vs Rigondeaux - HBO <=== Two of the best boxers in the sport today
Mares vs Ponce - Sho / GB <=== This is a counter point. But still, this fight should be sick.
Martinez vs Murray - HBO (same night as Judah vs Garcia on Sho <== VOMIT) Martinez is rapidly aging. I love him as a fighter, but he has been getting hurt too much to keep his insane edge.

I really don't know what GBP is doing with its stars. They're just rotting. Their guys at 140 are not fighting each other. Who was Matthysse's last fight for instance?

What about Broner? His last fight was Reese. And now Malignaggi. Gamboa has been calling him out and they'd rather do **** fights.
