I could be wrong, but this sounds like a Golden Opportunity for 50 Cent imo, HBO is going to need that new spark to recover after this move, so they may very well start becoming more willing to work with him and his fighters, it will be interesting to see what happens next.
HBO No Longer Working with Golden Boy Promotions

That's your opinion, but it doesn't change the fact that HBO has a much better brand when it comes to boxing than Showtime and a lot of that is due to their heritage...a heritage built with guys like Lampley, Lederman and Merchant. Period. You gave very rationale arguments for the Showtime guys, but brand affinity isn't rational, it's emotional. And that's why big fights on Showtime will feel less big than if they were on HBO. This may begin to change, but for now, Showtime as a brand for boxing remains 2nd tier to HBO.
Thank about it like this...this Showtime All Access no matter how good will come off like a wannabe 24/7. That's brand power. HBO has it, Showtime is TRYING to get it. Their commentators fall into this same category.
GB is the future of boxing, let's be real. Also, fans will go to who has the best fights and you will be surprised as to how fast the past is forgotten and how they jump on board of Showtime if they deliver the better product.Comment

I've just upgraded my fios package to Ultimate.. Now have showtime... No way I'm dropping HBO... Aside from their programming, I trust Hershmen and TR will continue to put strong fights together. Besides to the casual viewer they will watch whatever fighters HBO puts out there.Comment

Dude, if i remember well you are the guy who posted a video of your son calling floyd a faag, right? Dont let your hatred cloud your judgement, not because mannys promoter is with HBO makes that network better, in fact networks should be independent of promoters and should be buying the best fights out there regardless of whos promoting them, bad business decision to close the door to a whole plethora of fights..
Closing the door to a promotion outfit with many good fighters will hit them no matter what, you can see it here where regular boxing fans are talking about canceling subscriptions, if i was a stockholder of time warner who owns HBO i would be mad, this BAD business decission will have repercussions in loss of revenue, you cant count on that..Comment

HBO will be fine. They been through worse when Tyson and Don King left for Showtime years ago. HBO will move forward in another direction and again be strong. This will give them a chance to work with other promoters and these other Promoters will benefit by the chance to grow stronger. Believe it or not, this will hurt Golden Boy more than it will HBO. It is no secret HBO is more willing to put up the bigger bucks for fights and has many more viewers.Comment

there's a couple of really dumb posters in this thread...
so hbo has the rep...who gives a ****, people don't subscribe to a network because of the network's rep...it's about their programming and hbo is looking piss poor in that department when cutting ties with gbp...
which leads to the budget question...how many of u really believe hbo won't limit their budget as a result of this decision? I don't think they're looking to make a loss here..while the signing of mayweather and adding to the stable of gbp will likely add subscribers and increase SHO's budget for boxing...it's simple economics really
tr doesn't have a deep stable...I find it laughable people mention fighters like vargas or alvarado who are entertaining but nowhere near elite...shaw, dibella, duva promote few good champions, goossen still has ward thoughComment
