Comments Thread For: Orlando Del Valle Learning Plenty From Nacho Beristain

Puerto Rican super bantamweight prospect Luis "Orlandito" Del Valle (16-1, 11 KOs) returns to the ring on Saturday April 4th at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City, as part of the series "Broadway Boxing." His opponent will be announced shortly.

In September, "Orlandito" had his first career defeat to Vic Darchinyan by unanimous decision.

Recently, he traveled to Mexico to train under the supervision of legendary Mexican trainer Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain at the Romanza gym. Beristain has had about twenty Mexicans world champions - including Juan Manuel Marquez, Rafael Marquez, Ricardo "Finito" Lopez, among others.

This story really intrigues me. I hope Del Valle has success with a great teacher like Nacho.

I think it would make for a great reality show. A Puerto Rican fighter in Mexico City, a bit of a culture shock.

I've said many times before that Ricans and Cubans should train with Beristain and that Mexican$ would adopt them as one of their own like they are doing with Del Valle( and as they did with Cubans in the old days). Del Valle is now being trained by the world's greatest trainer and has also gained 120 million rabid boxing fans. Del valle will now be a much better fighter and will make alot more money. If Trinidad had trained with Beristain he'd have known how to counter Hopkins' hugging and hand holding tactics and he'd have whupped Bernard's a*s the way JM Marquez whupped Casamayor's hugging and hand holding a*s. Very good news! I'm so happy for this kid and I hope he reaches his potential. I'm now a Del Valle fan and will gladly pay for a PPV when he becomes champ.

Good to see that the Mexican people have shown him their hospitality. I'm looking forward to seeing what improvements Nacho has made with him.

This does bring up a good question though....what has happened to all the great Puerto Rican trainers? With their storied boxing history they should have their own versions of Nacho Beristain running around.

I guess it's not just USA heavyweight boxing that is on the decline.

Good luck to Orlando del Valle, I hope he stick long enough to learn all the craft under "Don Nacho's" supervision and see him crowned one day.
